I made these tutorials for the Cal Poly Animation Club in 2022 for students who were unfamiliar with the 3D modeling pipeline.
These tutorials were supplementary to lessons that I taught at the club meetings so students could refer to them at home. I based some of the information off of the excellent tutorial series "Sci-Fi Robot Drone" by Ryan King on YouTube.
I wanted to make a very short tutorial series that would introduce many major aspects of the 3D production pipeline, while helping students to be able to actually leave the club with their own completed animations.
This first tutorial segment is primarily about modeling a robot character.
This is the second part of this robot tutorial series. I go over the very basics of adding textures to a model and include instructions on how to do an extremely rudimentary rigging setup.
For fun I also added a little caricature of a professor that I synchronized movement and lip sync to the audio track.
This third part of the tutorial series is focused on animating and exporting the robot character.Â
By the time we finished up this tutorial series at the club meetings, there were only a couple of people who still were continuing with the tutorials, but when they finished and showed me their completed robot animations, I knew it was worth it.
Here is the completed demo video that I made as the end goal for this tutorial series.
All the music used in this tutorial series was utilized under YouTube's Audio Library License.
The tracks were:
Blue Danube Waltz - Strauss
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 - Liszt
Symphony No. 5 - Beethoven
Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven
Waltz of the Flowers - Tchaikovsky
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - Mozart
Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner
Morning Mood - Grieg
Pachabelly - Huma-Huma
Clouds - Huma-Huma
Gymnopedie No. 1 - Satie
