This is a short film made at Cal Poly's animation club in 2023. I was the project lead on this short and was involved in most shots in this film.
My core team on this project came with very little Blender/3D production experience, so it was incredibly rewarding to help teach and train my team with my background in Blender. This project felt like we were all together on a kind of journey, all eager to see a film get made as a group. I'm so proud of what our team was able to make in just a few short months.
I also scored the film in Ableton Live Lite.

This is the final character model for our rover character. I modeled this character in Blender using simple box modeling.
I then used Substance Painter to texture this character. I really enjoyed using Substance Painter to make the rover look weathered and old, and I had fun trying to convey character through the damage and dirt.

Above was my basic testing of a system to procedurally allow the rover rig to conform to the terrain without extensive key framing. This was achieved using constraints in Blender, with the wheels constrained to copy the location and rotation values from hidden planes projected onto the ground object. Below is the system working on the final rigged character.
